I am a very strong believer in not waiting for the new year to start making the changes you want to make to your life. If it’s October and you are brainstorming resolutions, you should go ahead and start them that month. You don’t have to wait until the first. But I also understand that during this dull period between Christmas in the New Year all we want to do is slack off and binge on yummy foods. It’s not really a good time to start changing things and I get that. I also think this dull period is a great to reflect and think of some things you would like to start changing. So here is a list of my resolutions and things I want to start working on during the New Year 🙂 Some are silly and small but hey any little goal is something!
Cut Out Dairy!
This upcoming New Year I need to be honest with myself…dairy is not the best thing for me. I’m not saying this because of any scientific or vegan reason (mainly because I’ve done zero research on that matter) but I know that dairy makes me bloated and can make my tummy hurt and it is probably the main cause of my acne. I know I won’t be able to cut cold turkey but I plan to start easing my way into it and I already have by ordering almond or coconut milk in my coffee. I’m hoping this will help my acne and my digestion.
30 Minutes of Me Time and Develop a Routine
I’m going to be straight up and honest, I used to be so LAZY! I had so much time on my hands and used it to be a bum. This year was my first year being so busy I sometimes felt like I didn’t have time to breathe. It happened so quick that I didn’t have time to plan or get in a routine. I’m a full time student working towards a double major degree, I commute to school, I work A LOT (wouldn’t trade it for the world though I love my job), and I started blogging! This New Year I really want to get organized and into a routine. I couldn’t keep up with my bullet journal this year and I really hope to in the New Year. I want to take 30 minutes of me time a day. Now this isn’t a time frame for me to scroll through Instagram or watch 3 youtube videos. This is time for me to plan in my bullet journal, write a poem, read a book, do a quick yoga flow, etc. Something that will benefit me in a positive way.
Take Better Care of My Skin and Body
Like I said above I got so busy towards the end of this year and starting in November I really stopped caring about what I ate and taking care of my skin. I can’t tell you the last time I worked out or the last day where I didn’t eat fast food. In my defense the mall I work at doesn’t have a food court and the quickest food spot happens to be Chic fil A. I really need to get better about packing a lunch for health and expense reasons. In this New Year I really want to get back into the habit of washing my face morning and night and working out at least once a week.
No More Plastic Straws
Plastic Straws are so bad for the environment and my family actually has a pack of metal straws…I just am always in a rush and forget them or my reusable cup. I want to get a case so I can keep some in my bag and cut out plastic straws all together.
3 Water Bottles a Day
I have a reusable water bottle that I want to start remembering to carry with me to work and school. I want to shoot for drinking at least 3 refills of it a day. Gotta start small 😉
Quality Over Quantity
This resolution is something I’ve already started to implement into my wardrobe. I really want to start finding my style this year. I feel like I keep buying clothes to only wear a few times which leads to wasting my money. I’ve slowly started finding my style and I’ve been taking note of the outfits I feel the most confident in.
Travel Somewhere New
I spend way too much money on Starbucks, eating out, and other random things that are very temporary. I want to start saving the money I would use on those pointless purchases and put it towards traveling somewhere new 🙂
Love Who You Are
This resolution isn’t a new one I need to work on because it is something I started applying to my life in 2018. I wanted to share it to inspire you all but to also remind myself that I need to stick with this mindset. Love Who You Are to me means to recognize that no one is perfect (EVER) and that you need to learn and remind yourself to love your highs and your lows. You are the only You in this world. No one is just like you. So find self love with yourself and love who you are 🙂
Those are all of my resolutions for the new year! I don’t expect myself to be perfect and follow all of these perfectly because life would be boring if that was the case. These resolutions are to push me and motivate me to focus more on things I locked away last year (like being in a routine). When you are thinking of your resolutions these last few days make some small and manageable and some large. Don’t hold yourself to too high of a standard because it will only cause you stress. Also recognize that you will have mess ups and days where you forget and that is OK! No one is perfect.
I hope you all have a wonderful New Year and I cannot wait to have this new beginning. I’m so excited to see where this year will take me.
Remember to always love who you are.
xoxo, marta bean.
