It’s one of the most stressful times of the year. Holidays are approaching quickly and if you are still in school you may be dealing with finals or midterms. For me I’m stressed about finishing the semester off with good grades and shopping for my friends and family for the holidays. Do not worry I have plenty of gift guides coming your way during the month of December to help you shop but I wanted to start of the holiday season with a blog post to help you all de-stress before and during this crazy season. So here are my top 6 ways to destress.
Take a Walk not a Nap
If you guys know anything about me then you know how much I LOVE to nap. But when you are super stressed out napping, unfortunately, is not the best choice. Napping is super unproductive and you may think taking a walk is too but on your walk you can spend the time getting exercise and clearing your mind. Listen to your favorite songs and think over whatever it is you are stressed about or don’t think about it at all and take this time to step away and clear your mind.
This may not be the best solution if Holiday cooking is what you are stressed about but if it happens to be anything else baking is one of my favorite ways to relieve stress. Depending on what you are baking, baking can be very meticulous and needing of your full attention. This distracts you from whatever it was you were stressed about because you won’t have time to think about it. Once your yummy treat is done you can get back to whatever it was you were working on and now you will have a treat to snack on. If you make something with chocolate it has actually been scientifically proven to make you happier.
Paint Your Happy Place
One day over the summer I was stressed about something and I ended up setting up a little paint set for myself and painted my happy place, a field of flowers. Painting is so relaxing and it’s a way you can pour your emotions into something physical. When I get really stressed I like to try and go to my happy place and whats better than just imagining it? Painting it!
It’s the holiday season meaning every store has put up and created their beautiful and festive window displays. Go to your local mall or downtown area and walk around and look at all of the window displays. Maybe go with a friend and try on fun party dresses. Some of my favorite memories are from trying on bizarre outfits in fitting rooms with my best friends. Just make sure you don’t leave a mess for the retail workers!
Blast Music and Dance
There is no better feeling than blasting music, feeling the beat run through your body, and dancing and singing like a crazy person. I have a Spotify Playlist called “Dance Around the Room” and “Belting Lyrics” which I love to put on when I need to get built up frustration or stress out of my body. Taylor Swift is also always a good album choice.
I love when I force myself to take time out of my day and read a good book. I have such a creative mind that I can get lost in a story for hours and forget about what was stressing me out. My favorite book of all time is I’ll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson. It is so well written and has such an amazing story. I could talk about it for hours but if you need an easy way to destress try reading a good book!
I hope this list helps you all find a way to relax and destress this break. I’m definitely going to be using them as I prepare for winter blog posts, finals, and working at my retail job. I’m a busy gal now a days but I love it 🙂
Always Remember to Love Who You Are.
